After a successful tenure as a college professor, Dr. Ann Clark decided to follow her entrepreneurial drive and pursue a new career that combined her psychological expertise with her desire to help people. In the summer of 1983, Dr. Clark founded ACI Specialty Benefits—originally an employee assistance program under the name Ann Clark Associates—from the home office of her La Jolla, California condo.
Under Dr. Clark’s leadership, the company has evolved, expanded and adapted its services to meet the diverse and changing needs of today’s workforce. With an annual client retention rate of over 90% and record-breaking new sales each year, ACI now provides the full spectrum of specialty benefits services—EAP, wellness, lifestyle management, concierge, work/life and crisis support services—to over five million subscribers worldwide.
