Hiking for Fitness

Being outside is one of the most refreshing things in the world, and exercising outside, well that is even better! Whether you are walking over to your local park or going off the beaten path, hiking is a great way to get your heart pumping and your muscles working all while enjoying some sun and vitamin D. You might be thinking that you only use one part of your body when you’re hiking; your legs. However, when you are really hitting the trails hard you can engage all of these muscles:

* Glutes
* Quadriceps
* Hamstrings
* Calves
* Abdominals
* Lower Back
* Obliques
* Ankle and Knee Complex
* Inside and Outside Thigh

To engage your upper body, try using hiking poles. Make sure to wear a lot of sunscreen and drink plenty of water, but most importantly have fun and get out and find some trails!
