Sweat the Small Stuff: Common Summer Exercise Mistakes

Warm weather is a great reason to get outside and exercise, but don’t get burned by these common warm-weather exercise slip-ups.

Drinking hot coffee before a run

Caffeine can act as a diuretic, resulting in dehydration. It is best to drink cold fluids and cool the body before an outside, summer workout.

Forgetting to hydrate at the pool

Believe it or not, we still sweat in the water, so it is critical to re-hydrate even when you are in the pool. Without feeling the sweat, our cues to drink are diminished, so try and keep a water bottle nearby as a reminder!

Sleeping in

Sounds harmless, right? As the day goes on the temperature increases resulting in an increase risk for heat exhaustion. Avoid exercising outside between 11am and 3pm – the hottest times of the day.
