When we asked ACI’s modern moms to offer words of wisdom to other hard-working moms, Tori Barr responded with “where do I begin.” A mom of two amazing ‘young men’ Brydon and Colton, Tori has loved every part of being a mom. Yes, she is ACI’s Vice President of Corporate Relations, she oversees some of ACI’s largest and most longstanding accounts—recently received a Certificate of Appreciation by the Department of the Navy for her excellent contributions—and has traveled to conferences across the U.S speaking about ACI’s SOAR student assistance program and its impact on military students. But people may not realize that throughout this time she’s been a hands-on, dedicated mom, and #1 champion to her growing boys. With one just wrapping up his first year of college, and another in high school, Tori’s done it all, seen it all, and was happy to share her favorite tips for today’s modern moms:
Preparing for #2: I remember when we were having our 2nd child, and were so worried that we couldn’t love him/her as much as we did our first. What we came to learn was that we grew a whole new heart for our 2nd child….I’m sure it would be true for a 3rd or 4th.
Favorite and most helpful book: How to Simplify your Life with Kids
Note: Let others help. When they offer to bring a casserole or make desserts….say yes! Trade off hosting holidays. Ever considered going to brunch at a big hotel on a holiday instead of cooking? Even Christmas Day brunch can be fun and so easy.
Reminder: you’ll have plenty of time to clean the house after they’ve gone off to college…so don’t stress out
Wish I would have: Made my kids eat more greens, salads and veggies when they were little instead of giving. Now they just plain don’t like those foods.
Let your kids get dirty. It all washes off.
Spend lots of time in the bookstore on the ground, reading books. They are the best way to increase your kids intelligence. And….anyone can do it with them, grandma, auntie, mom, dad, big brother…..reading is awesome with kids.
