Businesses around the nation are hitting the ground running with employee wellness programs. A recent study published in the Wall Street Journal shows that the average employee wellness incentive rose 65% from $260 in 2009 to $430 per employee in 2010. The study also found that there was a 5% expansion in the past year of employers beginning to offer wellness programs to their employees.
One of those businesses is Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel in California. After hearing the positive feedback and the hard return on investment data on employee wellness programs, Jackson Rancheria decided to team up with ACI Specialty Benefits and the local New York Fitness to create an innovative wellness program for its employees and their families (See the press release). Each week the employees are offered free cardio and strength training classes that actually work around their work schedule. This wrinkle in the program has helped to grow participation and employee involvement which is the most crucial aspect of implementing a wellness program.
